ଦିନେ କୋଟିଲିଙ୍ଗର କ୍ଷେତ୍ର ବୋଲାଉଥିବା ଭୁବନେଶ୍ୱର, ସମୟର ଗତିରେ ଏହାର ବହୁ ମନ୍ଦିର ଓ ବିଗ୍ରହ ଲୁପ୍ତ ଓ ଲୁଣ୍ଠିତ ହୋଇ ପଡ଼ିଥିଲେ। ଏଥି ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଅଷ୍ଟଶମ୍ଭୁ ମନ୍ଦିର ଅନ୍ୟତମ। ପବିତ୍ର ବିନ୍ଦୁସାଗରର ଉତ୍ତର ଦିଗରେ ଓ ଗୋଦାବରୀ ତୀର୍ଥ ଏବଂ ଉତ୍ତରେଶ୍ବରଙ୍କ ନିକଟରେ ଏହି ଅଷ୍ଟଶମ୍ଭୁ ମନ୍ଦିର ଅବସ୍ଥିତ। ରେଖାଶୈଳୀର ଏହି ମନ୍ଦିରମାନ ପ୍ରାୟ ଦ୍ୱାଦଶ କିମ୍ବା ତ୍ରୟୋଦଶ ଶତାବ୍ଦୀର ଅଟେ। ବର୍ତ୍ତମାନ ଏଠାରେ କୌଣସି ପୂଜିତ ବିଗ୍ରହ ନାହାଁନ୍ତି। କାଳର କରାଳ ଗର୍ଭରେ ଏହା ଲୁଣ୍ଠିତ ଓ ଅବହେଳିତ ହୋଇ ପଡ଼ିଥିଲେ। ପୁରାତତ୍ତ୍ଵ ବିଭାଗ ଓ ସ୍ଥାନୀୟ ଲୋକଙ୍କ ଉଦ୍ୟମରେ ଏହା ବର୍ତ୍ତମାନ ସୁରକ୍ଷିତ ହୋଇଅଛି। ସେଭଳି ସୂକ୍ଷ୍ମକାମ ନ ହୋଇ ଥିଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଏହା ଅପୂର୍ବ ଶୋଭା ଧାରଣ କରେ। ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ ଦେଉଳରେ ପାର୍ଶ୍ୱ ଦେବତା ରୂପେ ଗଣେଶ, କାର୍ତ୍ତିକ ଓ ପାର୍ବତୀଙ୍କ ବିଗ୍ରହ ରହିଅଛି ଏହାଙ୍କ ସହ ମନ୍ଦିରର ଦ୍ୱାରଦେଶରେ ଦ୍ୱାରଲକ୍ଷ୍ମୀ ଓ ନବଗ୍ରହ ବିଗ୍ରହ ଖୋଦିତ ହୋଇଅଛି।
At an earlier time the Bhubaneswar was known as Koti Linga Kshetra as it holds one crore Shiva Lingas. Passing of time many temples were looted and lost their identity. The Astha Sambhu Temple is one of them. These are group of eight temples which are located in the northern bank of sacred Bindusagar and near to Uttareswara and Godavari tirtha. The temple arcitecture type is ‘Rekha Saili’ of Kalingan architecture. They are belongs from 12-13th century. Now there are no presiding deity in these temple. The deities are may be looted and neglected. Some years before by the help of ASI and local people this place took a new look. Without such intrinsic carvings still now they looks marvelous. In each temple there are three Parvaswa Devatas are carved like- Ganesha, Kartikeya and Parvati. In the door jamb Gaja Laxmi and Navagrahas are Carved.
